A bit about us
I’m Nicky (left), and he’s Phil (below). We’re two Brits who settled in Istria in early 2005. Before that we ran our own small marketing communications agency in Antwerp, Belgium. We enjoy travelling, but when we’re home, love the more relaxed country lifestyle we now have.
We came to Istria to have a more outdoor lifestyle, to live somewhere we could have outdoor sofas, lunch on the terrace and an afternoon swim. It’s a special part of Europe, a ‘sweet-spot’ in the Med – far enough South to have long, warm summers, yet without the searing heat of further down, so the countryside is a lush green. Life is slower here, with less traffic and more trees. And the landscape is seductive, with sun-kissed old stone villages, winding country lanes and pine trees growing down to the sea.
We built the Little House, at the bottom of our garden, for our family and friends when they visit. When they’re not here, we’re delighted to welcome other guests. It’s well away from the main house, so we both have plenty of privacy.
Living here ourselves, we soon realised Istria is a fantastic European holiday location and decided to buy a holiday house to rent out.
Being romantics, we wanted an old stone property, a slice of real Istria . We also wanted somewhere practical, with shops and a choice of restaurants close-by, so our guests could relax and not worry about having to drive. There should also be a garden to relax in, with a pool to keep the kids amused.
Sounds easy, but it took several years of searching – but when we found Kovaci we knew we’d found the perfect place for giving families a great holiday.
